Bolt pattern is the first number that has to match before any wheel goes on your truck. Here's how to measure it, the common Ford, Chevy/GMC, Ram, and Jeep patterns, and the offset and bore checks that catch most fitment mistakes.

Count the lugs. For an even-lug pattern (4, 6, 8), measure straight across the center of the hub from one lug bolt to the lug bolt directly opposite. For 5-lug, measure from the back of one lug to the center of the lug two spots over, or use a bolt pattern gauge for accuracy. The first number is the lug count; the second is the circle diameter in millimeters or inches.
It's an 8-lug wheel with a 6.5-inch (165.1mm) bolt circle diameter. This is the classic Chevy/GMC 2500/3500 and older Ram 2500/3500 pattern. It is not interchangeable with 8x170mm (Ford Super Duty) or 8x180mm (newer GM HD).
Sometimes, but offset and backspacing change how far the wheel sits in or out of the fender. Wrong offset can cause rubbing, throw off steering geometry, and shorten wheel-bearing life. Always confirm offset, backspacing, and hub bore alongside the bolt pattern before ordering.
Quality forged adapters from a reputable manufacturer are safe for street use when sized correctly and torqued to spec. Avoid no-name cast adapters, never stack adapters, and re-torque after the first 50-100 miles. For lifted trucks, oversized tires, or HD applications we recommend matching the OEM pattern instead of adapting.
Hub-centric wheels rest on the hub via a precise center bore, which carries the vehicle weight and keeps the wheel perfectly centered. Lug-centric wheels rely on the lug nuts for centering. Hub-centric is preferred on heavy trucks; if your aftermarket wheel has a larger bore than your hub, use hub-centric rings to fill the gap.
Usually one of three things: the hub bore is smaller than the wheel bore (needs hub rings), the wheel hits a brake caliper or hub flange (clearance issue), or the lug seat type doesn't match (conical vs. ball vs. mag).
